Douglas Franklin

Burlington, NC – Douglas Marshall Franklin, age 90, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at the Hospice Home.  He was a native of Bassett Virginia and the husband of 58 years to the late June Turner Franklin.

Douglas was a US Air Force Veteran and a lifelong member of Grove Park Baptist Church. He received his undergraduate degree from VPI (Virginia Tech) and his masters degree from NC State University in electrical engineering. He was hired at Bell Laboratories as an electrical engineer and later served as department chief for Western-Electric / AT&T for over 30 years. He enjoyed trips to the beach and spending time with his family.  He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Survivors include his daughter, Donna Strickland and her husband, Richard of Burlington; son, Mark Franklin and his wife, Lilian of Burlington; grandchildren, Hailee Strickland, Emerson Strickland, Noelle Strickland, Aidan Franklin, Brendan Franklin and brothers, Harold Franklin and wife, Agnes and Leon Franklin and wife, Kathy.  He was preceded in death by his wife and parents, Leonard Lee Franklin and Lelia Mae Franklin.

A service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at 2:15 p.m. at Grove Park Baptist Church by Dr. Gene Hunsinger and Rev. Mark Sanders with the burial to follow at Alamance Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory.
