Dr. Dale O. Steele

Oct 6, 1933 — May 5, 2026

Burlington

Dr. Dale Oren Steele, age 92, lived his life here on earth devoted to his Lord Jesus and has now begun his eternal life praising his Lord face to face. Let the celebration begin!

Dale was born October 6, 1933 in Charlotte, North Carolina to the late Robert Ross and Eula Myers Steele. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Tuesday, May5th.

His first job, at the age of 15, was at Myers Park Hardware and Gas Station where he developed a life long love of working with his hands and a love of the automobile.

He graduated from Wake Forest College with a Bachelor of Speech and began work in the public sector. Then in 1965 his Lord called him to serve in the ministry. He went back to school, while working and raising a family, and earned his Bachelor of Divinity, Masters of Theology and his Doctorate of Ministry.

Highlights of his service include: Mission trips to Africa, Barbados, South Korea, and Guyana, a radio ministry, teaching the Word and serving on multiple college boards and charitable foundations.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Doris Ann Dedmon Steele; daughter, Karen Steele Havey, grandchildren, Joseph Dedmon Havey (Leyla), Henry William Havey and Katherine Carol Havey; daughter, Carol Steele Stephens (Mike); son-in-law, Daniel E. Havey. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Reba Steele Carriker.

His greatest legacy is the teaching and leading of his children, grandchildren and sons-in-law into a personal life changing relationship with Christ. They join the many others whose lives were changed by our Dad’s willingness to let the Lord live through him!

So we celebrate that good news and look forward to the day we see him again.

A special thank you to the caregivers who ministered to our Dad with such patience, kindness and love. He enjoyed laughing with each one of you.

There will be a visitation for family and friends on Friday, May 8, 2026 from 2-4PM at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory. A graveside service to celebrate will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, May 9, 2026 by Rev. Jim Brackett and Rev. Derek Kiser at Elizabeth Baptist Church Cemetery in Shelby, N.C.
