Edith Hammons Ivey

October 10, 1941 — November 6, 2023

Mebane

On November 6, 2023 Edith finished her race and went to be with her Lord and Savior.  This culminated her life’s work and focus serving Jesus and introducing others to Him.  She was born in Pineville, KY and grew up in Mt. Vernon, KY.  Edith received her nursing degree from Virginia Intermont and served as a nurse at Rockcastle Hospital, Wesley Long Hospital, Humana (formerly Women’s Hospital), Alamance Memorial Hospital and finally at ARMC where she made lifelong friends. She also served as co-owner of Worthway Dairy Farm.

Edith was preceded in death by her parents Earl and Mary Pat Hammons, her first husband Robert Dailey, second husband Worth Ivey, a brother James Earl Hammons and sister-in-law Libby, a brother-in-law Mac Ivey.  She is survived by her daughter Kathy Nail (Jim) and a son Steve Dailey (Jean); her grandchildren Hannah (Matt), Sara (Andy), Logan (Clara), and Aaron (Kelli); great grandchildren Amelia, Claire, Nora, Liza, and Evan, and a sister-in-law Carolyn Ivey and her family, and several nieces and nephews and their families that she dearly loved.

Edith loved her friends from the YMCA and the community of caring there.  She had the gift of hospitality and loved hosting family and friends at her home.   Edith didn’t know how to have a short conversation because she was truly interested in how you were doing spiritually, physically, and emotionally. She would offer encouragement and advice. Edith laughed easily and loved to act silly to give others a laugh.

Edith’s life was about serving Jesus showing love in action by her time, generosity, and friendship.  She was a charter member at Greensboro Church of Christ, was passionate about Missions and formerly served as a forwarding agent for a missionary in Jamaica.  Edith was active at Burlington Christian Church where she played the piano until her hands would no longer allow, served on the Missions ministry, and especially loved the Ladies Bible Study Groups.  Her joy was seeing people come to Christ and grow in Him.  In lieu of flowers memorial gifts can be given to Burlington Christian Church “Missions Fund”, 301 Trail Four, Burlington, NC 27215.

A celebration of her life will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, December 9, 2023 at Burlington Christian Church, 301 Trail Four, Burlington, NC 27215.
