Edwin Gale Apple peacefully passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at his home on his 79th birthday. He was born on April 9, 1947 in Guilford County, NC to the late Clyde Edwin Apple and Oleta Barber Apple. Edwin lived a life marked by devotion, hard work, and a solid commitment to those he held dear.
For 47+ years, Edwin was the proud owner and operator of Johnson Motor Company, dedicating his professional life to serving his community with honesty and skill. His retirement marked the close of an era defined by hard work and care, but it was the role as a family man that remained his greatest and most treasured accomplishment.
A man of many interests, Edwin found joy in the outdoors, spending cherished time farming and gardening. He served several years on the Board of Directors at Fire Station # 28 and worked at the polling station during election time. His hobbies included working with Model Airplanes that he flew. And he owned and flew a CESSNA 152 airplane. He loved meeting his friends at Pete’s grill for breakfast and fellowshipping with them. He thoroughly enjoyed wood-working in his recent years and making things for his family and friends.
Edwin attended Friedens Lutheran Church, where his faith and fellowship were sources of strength and comfort throughout his life. His earnest spirit, his firm dedication as a family man, and his hard-working nature left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Edwin was a devoted husband of 59 years to the late Patricia Huffines Apple. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and countless shared memories. He was the proud father of his daughter, Melody and her husband, Chris. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Dylan Bryant, Brooke Bryant and husband Michael Troxler, and Tyler Bryant. Perhaps his closest friend was his companion dog, “Bubba.” Along with his parents and wife, Edwin was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Clark.
A Memorial service to celebrate the life of Edwin will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, April 12, 2026 at Friedens Lutheran Church. The family will receive friends from 1:30 PM to 2:45 PM at the church prior to the service. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. Other times the family will be at his daughter’s home.
A special thank you to Fire Station #28 and the EMS team who assisted as much as they could. Memorials may be made to Friedens Lutheran Church, 6001 NC Hwy 61 North, Gibsonville, NC 27249. You may send condolences online at www.lowefuneralhome.com
