Ernest Lee Hatchel

Ernest Lee Hatchel, 95, passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at the Hospice Home of Alamance-Caswell.  He was born on July 19, 1927 in Mecklenburg County, VA to the late James Henry Hatchel and the late Mary Steverson Hatchel and was married for over 75 years to Margaret Virginia Tyree Hatchel, who passed away in 2021.

Ernest was a veteran of the U.S Navy and served during WWII.  He retired from Associated Transport after 29 years of service and attended Bible Wesleyan Church.  He was an avid woodworker and also enjoyed fishing, but most of all he loved spending time with his family. 

Mr. Hatchel is survived by his daughter, Deborah “Debbie” Mann and husband, Mike; his son, David Hatchel and wife, Kathy; nine grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife; a son, William “Bill” Lee Hatchel; his parents; four sisters and four brothers. 

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, February 6, 2023 in the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Brian Covert.  Interment will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30 – 1:45 PM Monday prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the daughter, Deborah’s residence, 2405 Millikan Rd, Chapel Hill.
