Mrs. Frances Whitfield Barber, age 78, of 6500 Osceola-Ossipee Rd., died Thursday, December 13, 2012 at the Hospice Home after several months of failing health. Born in Person County, she was the daughter of the late Lester Ezra Whitfield and the late Maggie Mae Long Whitfield and was married to Melvin "Bud" Barber, who survives. Frances worked for May Hosiery Mill and then J. Spencer Love for many years before opening Frances Beauty Shop and was the owner and operator until her retirement. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Ladies Sunday School Class. Mrs. Barber is survived by her husband of the home; three daughters, Trudy McCormick and her husband, Steve, of Randleman, NC, Pamela Brown and her husband, Shelton, of Graham and Lisa Thomas and her husband, John, of Elon; a son, Harry L. Windsor, Jr. and his wife, Christie, of Greensboro; two step daughters, Debbie Satterfield of Elon and Angie Brame and her husband, David, of Browns Summit; a step son, Derek Roach of Greensboro; eleven grandchildren; three step grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; six sisters, Lorraine J.C. Matkins of Elon, Beatrice Jenkins of Burlington, Katye Newton of Burlington, Jean Walker of Roxboro, Sadie Roach of Gibsonville and Linda Woody Allen of Elon; two brothers, Herbert Nancy Whitfield of Burlington and Herman Carol Whitfield of Haw River; and two sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Whitfield and Gloria Whitfield. She was preceded in death by her former husbands, Harry L. Windsor, Sr. and William "Bill" Roach; an infant son, Gary Dean Windsor; sisters, Mae Lowe and Doris Coleman; brothers, Raymond Whitfield and Melvin Whitfield; and a half sister, Ethel Whitfield. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Monday, December 17, 2012 at Bethel Baptist Church by Rev. David Jackson, Rev. Norman Fargis and Rev. Scott London. Interment will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Sunday evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the residence. Mrs. Barber's family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Alamance Regional Cancer Center and to the nurses and caregivers at the Hospice Home for the loving care and kindness given to Frances during her battle with cancer.
