Frank Lewis Slaughter

December 11, 1934 — May 13, 2026

Elon

Frank L. Slaughter, age 91, passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, peacefully at his home with his daughter, Katrina Benton, by his side. Frank was raised in Roxboro, NC and lived most of his life in Alamance County. He was the son of the late Ment Victor Slaughter and Lula Mae Dalton.

Frank worked many years in the mill as a textiles supervisor. In his retirement, Frank pursued and obtained his GED from Alamance Community College and at that time was the oldest to do so at the institution. He loved sports, particularly baseball, Nascar racing, and football. Frank was a regular attendee of Burlington Indians/Royals/Sock Puppets with his wife, Peggy, and many of their family. He found immense joy in getting to know the players each year, providing the bullpen with snacks, and collecting memorabilia from the league’s rising stars.

Frank loved the outdoors. No matter the season you could find him outside doing yard work, tending to his garden, building decks and swings, or fishing. He took pride in his work outdoors and impressed his knowledge on his children and grandchildren. Frank could often be found spending his afternoons at Hardee’s where he would enjoy a meal while socializing with new and old friends.

Frank’s greatest achievement in life was building and caring for his family. Frank became an “instant dad” when he married Peggy Slaughter at just 27 years old. He courageously took on the responsibility of taking care of Peggy’s four children as if they were his own. They later added two children of their own to the group.

He is survived by his daughters, Katrina Benton (Connie) of Gibsonville and Margie Johnson of Elon; sons, Victor Slaughter (Glenda) of Burlington, Leonard “Lenn” Farrar (Betty) of Burlington, Jeffery “Jeff” Farrar (Suzanna) of Elon; son-in-law, Eugene “Anky” Anthony Long (Darlene) of Elon; sister, Marie Ray of Burlington; 14 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Peggy Brantley Slaughter, his parents, daughter, Helen Darlene Long, and sisters, Estelle “Jeep” Wrenn and Katie Keith.

Frank’s family would like to thank the nurses, Beverly, Ruby, and Allison, with Hospice and special friend, Wanda, who helped care for Frank at home.

A service to celebrate his life will be conducted on Monday, May 18, 2026, at 2 p.m. at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel and burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and at other times at the home.
