Freddie Walter Gossett

Freddie Walter Gossett, known affectionately as "Farmer Freddie," peacefully passed away at his home in Whitsett, North Carolina, surrounded by his loving family on October 7, 2023. Born on May 20, 1954, in Guilford County, NC, Freddie lived a remarkable life filled with dedication to his community and a passion for making people smile.

Freddie had a long and fulfilling career. He retired as a salesman from Stock Building Supply after many years of dedicated service. However, it was not only his professional accomplishments that defined him but also his selflessness and commitment to others. Freddie served as a volunteer fireman for the Deep River Fire Department. In addition to his role as a firefighter, he held the position of treasurer on the board of directors at Mt. Hope Community Fire Department.

Known for his warm and friendly personality, Freddie was truly a people person who cherished human connections. He went out of his way to bring smiles to people's faces and always made himself available to lend a helping hand to friends and neighbors in need. His genuine care for others made him a beloved figure in the community.

In his free time, Freddie enjoyed being outdoors and exploring nature. Whether he was riding his tractor or gator around his property or riding through his community, he found joy in simple pleasures. Freddie's zest for life and adventurous spirit were evident to all who knew him.

Freddie will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and compassion that will continue to inspire those who follow in his footsteps.

Freddie is survived by his loving wife of almost 28 years, Cathy Greeson Gossett; daughters Christy Rogers (Chico), Rachael Gossett (Trey Stevens), and Katelyn Gossett (Jared Mays); cherished grandchildren Christian Gossett and Gage Rogers; and furbabies Cooper, Henny, and Tobi. He is also survived by his siblings Susan Tobin, Donna Yarborough, Jamie Gossett, Jerry Gossett (Celia), and Tony Gossett; sister-in-law Cindy Gossett; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents James Roland Gossett and Gaynelle Rayle Gossett, and his brother Randall Gossett.

A funeral service to celebrate Freddie's life will be held at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at Mt. Hope United Church of Christ by Rev. Kristin Gerner-Vaughn with the burial to follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 - 11:45 prior to the service at the church.

During this difficult time, let us remember Freddie's unwavering love for his family, his dedication to the community, and the genuine joy he brought to everyone he met. May his memory be a source of comfort and inspiration as we celebrate the remarkable life he lived.
