Gary Lyn Simmons

Sep 20, 1952 — Sep 18, 2026

Whitsett, NC

Mr. Gary Lyn Simmons, age 73, of Whitsett, NC, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 18, 2026, at Hospice Home of Alamance following several months of declining health.

A native of Alamance County, Gary was the son of the late Thomas Edward Simmons and the late Jewel Stinson Webster. He was the devoted husband of Amelia Gail “Gail” Lewey Simmons, with whom he shared more than 29 years of marriage.

Gary proudly served his country as a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Following his military service, he worked for many years with Burlington Industries before eventually starting his own business, The Computer Dr. He had a natural talent for working with technology and took great pride in helping others solve their computer and technology problems.

Gary enjoyed many things in life, especially activities that allowed him to have fun and spend time with others. He was an avid bowler who played in several leagues and was an excellent billiards player and member of the American Poolplayers Association. He also had a gift for fixing things and was the kind of person family and friends could always count on when something needed repairing. Whether working with his hands or helping someone with a computer, Gary was happiest when he could be useful to others.

Those who knew Gary will remember his willingness to help, his many talents, and the special place he held in the lives of his family and friends. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories that will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.

Gary is survived by his wife, Gail, of the home; his sister, Norma Williams (Randy); his brother, Howard Simmons, Sr. (Marie); half-sister, Jennifer Simmons; half-brother, Dale Simmons; and his nieces and nephews, Howard Simmons, Jr., Andy Simmons, Sabrina Simmons, Brandy Statford, Mark Williams, Scott Williams, Keith Williams, Robert Simmons, Jr., and Samantha Simmons.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Loretta Simmons; and his brother, Robert Simmons, Sr.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at Alamance Memorial Park, with his half-brother, Rev. Dale Simmons, officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Tuesday evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory.
