Burlington – Gay Adams Townes, 76, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 22, 2023 at ARMC. She was the daughter of the late Harry Singleton and Janie Hawkins Adams and the wife of the late Richard David Townes.
Gay retired from textiles working for Westpoint Stevens. She was a member of Lighthouse Chapel where she served faithfully for many years. Gay spent many hours reading her Bible and books on various topics. She enjoyed watching Jeopardy, the Bachelor and the Bachelorette on TV. Gay loved her feline companions, “Sassy” and “Bootsie”. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister and grandmother. Her grandchildren referred to her as “Maw” “Maw”.
Survivors include son, Charlie “Tommy” Stewart Jr. and wife, Tammy of Burlington; grandchildren, Thomas Lee Stewart and Taylor Stewart (Hayden) Billings; sisters, Barbara Blalock and husband, Roy of Graham and Juanita Carter of MacClenny, Florida; sister-in-law, Shirley Adams of Burlington; brother-in-law, Ralph Townes of Raleigh and mother-in-law, Norma Mashburn of Raleigh and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; sisters, Peggy Adams Tingen and Jane Scott and her brother, James Franklin “Buddy” Adams.
A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, May 25, 2023 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. DL Perry. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 pm prior to the service at the funeral home. The family will also be at Lighthouse Chapel Church on Wednesday from 10-7pm to receive friends.
