George McPheters II

George Wesley McPheters II, age 81, of Briarwood Dr, passed away Saturday, January 19, 2013 at Duke Medical Center in Durham A native of St. Louis, MO, he was husband of the late Rose Ann Fausset McPheters and son of the late Harry and Mildred Harrison McPheters. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korea War. George earned his BS degree at Washington University, his MS degree at N.J. Institute of technology and a second MS with Bell Labs. He worked for Western Electric, Bell Labs and retired from Bellcore in NJ. Following his retirement George with his wife chose to move to NC to be near his dear friends. He worked and played with his computer and enjoyed stained glass work as a hobby. George will be remembered for his generosity and intellect. He was a true gentleman in every sense of the term. George is survived by his family Diana Dopke of Elgin, IL, Eric Grebe of Milwaukee, WI, Diane Faveere of Menomonee Falls, MN, and his self chosen family, Gloria and Barbara Brown of Burlington, Paul and Mary Brown of Graham David Brown of Baltimore, MD, a good friend Alex Dawson and his faithful companion German Shepherd Onna Von Brewer. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Tuesday, January 22, 2013 in the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Stephen Rust. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:45pm Tuesday, prior to the funeral service.
