Phil dedicated fifteen years of his career to Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company from 1958 to 1973. From 2003 to 2021, Phil and his wife enjoyed spending their winters in Deland, Florida. In 2014, they made Burlington, North Carolina, their permanent residence.
Beyond his professional life, Phil was a man of many passions. He proudly held a pilot's license and cherished his time as a small plane owner. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed the art of photography, and found pleasure in the mental challenges of Sudoku.
Phil is survived by his loving wife, Eleanor Boyd Wright of Burlington; his son and daughter-in-law, Eric Boyd Wright and Crystal Gail Tart Wright of Wake County; his cherished grandsons, Jackson Philip Wright and Roman Ellis Wright, also of Wake County; his sister, Shirley Hinshaw, and brother-in-law Vernon Hinshaw, residing outside of Henry, Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association www.alz.org, or a charity of one's choice, in Phil's name.
