Glenda Ann Southard Gillispie, 89, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 10, 2026 at the Homeplace. She was born on July 17, 1936 in Alamance County to the late Walter Lee Southard and Mabel Frances McIntyre Southard. Glenda lived a life rich with love, laughter, and the warmth of family bonds.
Glenda formerly worked with Cone Mills in her earlier years and worked with Moses Cone Hospital for over 15 years before she stopped working in the 90’s. As a devoted member of Zion Christian Church, Glenda found joy and solace in her faith, which guided her through life's seasons. Her vibrant spirit and dedication to her family were evident in countless treasured memories of family vacations filled with laughter at the beach and the mountains, as well as simple yet profound moments spent dining together. She held her family close to her heart, particularly reveling in the time shared with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. To her, these experiences were not just moments; they were lasting memories of their lives together.
Glenda is survived by her loving children, Deborah Van Fleet and her husband Glenn, and Barry Gillispie and his wife Tracey. She leaves behind a legacy of love through her ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; her sisters, Edna McClure and Bonnie Alcon, and numerous nieces and nephews. She has now been reunited with those who preceded her in death, her parents; her beloved husband of 35 years, Robert "Bob" Worth Gillispie, Jr. who died in 1995; her daughters, Lynn Snotherly and Karen Davis; and her sisters, Dare Kernodle, Becky Mann and Betty Walker.
A graveside service to celebrate the life of Glenda will be held at 3:00PM Saturday, March 14, 2026 at Alamance Memorial Park by Rev. Jerry Johnson. The family will receive friends from 1:00PM to 2:30PM Saturday prior to the service at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory.
