Glenda Kay Johnson Terry, 80, a beloved figure to her family and community, peacefully departed this life on Tuesday, February 17, 2026 at the Hospice Home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 5, 1945, in Baltimore County, Maryland, to the late Daniel Voyied Johnson, Sr. and Dora Katie Evans Johnson, and was the wife to Otis Wesley Terry who survives.
Glenda worked in healthcare her entire career as a CNA. She spent her life expressing the heart of care and compassion, deeply rooted in her soul as she served as a caregiver for over three decades. She dedicated more than 25 years of her professional life to White Oak Manor and previously worked at Liberty Commons for 10 years. While working at White Oak Manor, Glenda met her faithful and loving husband, Wesley there. At the time of her passing, she was currently working with Touched by Angels, where she continued to pour her heart into caring for others, always placing their needs before her own.
Glenda was a member of First Baptist Church of Graham, where she accepted the Lord as her Savior at the young age of 14. When you met Glenda, you found out quickly that she was the most giving person while showing love and compassion in everything she did, and she never met a stranger. While Glenda's heart was filled with love for her family, she also cherished her clients, often considering them as part of her extended family. She cared for her family, friends, clients and their families with dignity and respect. Glenda enjoyed working with her flowers, gardening, crocheting and guilting. She took pride in the quilts and afghans that she so lovingly made for her friends and family.
Family was Glenda's proudest accomplishment. She was a devoted wife to Otis Wesley Terry, with whom she shared 34 wonderful years of marriage. Her legacy lives on through her children, her loving son, Phillip Eugene "Gene" Thomas, Jr. and her devoted daughter, Danette Kay Thomas Clapp; her grandchildren that she adored, Preston Brown (Marcia), Heather Thomas (Jonathan), Justin Brown, Amanda Thomas (Ricky), and Phillip Scott Thomas (Erika), each of whom brought happiness to her life. The circle of love continued to expand with her six great-grandchildren, Rachel, Anniston, Kartir, Hayden, Zander and Chloe; and one spoiled cat, Snoopy who gave her much enjoyment through the years. Also, several nieces and nephews, each holding precious memories of Glenda’s nurturing spirit that touched so many lives. Glenda has now been reunited with her loving parents; her great-grandson, Jackson Thomas; her sister, Billie Jean Harrington; her brother, Daniel Johnson, Jr.; and her son-in-law, Wayne Alvin Clapp.
The family will receive friends from 1:00pm to 2:30pm on Friday, February 20, 2026 at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory with a Graveside Service to follow at 3:00pm at Alamance Memorial Park by Rev. Reid Dickens. At other times the family will be at the residence.
Memorials may be made to AuthoraCare, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.
As we remember Glenda Johnson Terry, let us hold close the legacy of love she has gifted us and continue the beautiful work of caring for one another, just as she always did.
