Goldie Gray Sawyer

Goldie retired after 36 years with AT & T/Lucent and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.  He was a longtime member of Mt. Hope United Church of Christ.  He enjoyed helping prepare for the fall and spring suppers. Goldie was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was deeply loved by his family.

Goldie is survived by his son, Alan Gray Sawyer and wife, Cheryl of Liberty; grandchildren, Scott Alan (Melissa) Sawyer, Jennifer Sawyer (Chad) Blalock, Lindsay Sawyer (David) Bentley; great grandchildren, Andy Nicholas Sawyer, Austin Michael Sawyer, Emma Cate Bentley, Sawyer Blaire Blalock and Elizabeth Claire Bentley; sisters, Yvonne Sawyer Hemphill of Julian and Deane Sawyer Piper of Jamestown. He was preceded in death by his wife and parents.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the Authoracare Hospice nurses and staff that took care of Goldie at his residence. The family would like to express their appreciation for two ladies that cared for Goldie in his home, Cindy Rowell and Amanda Hayes.

The funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 15, 2023 at 2:00pm at Mt. Hope United Church of Christ by Rev. Kristen Gerner Vaughn and the burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:45pm prior to the service and at the home after the service at 3:00pm.
