Harold Leon Ray, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and treasured member of his community, passed away peacefully at his residence on May 7, 2026. Born on September 7, 1951, Harold’s life was a beautiful testament to faith, family, and the simple joys that brought light to his days.
A devoted member of Altamahaw Baptist, Harold was known for his steadfast commitment and vibrant spirit within the church. He was very active in church activities and used his gift of song to uplift others by singing in a group at church, spreading warmth and hope through his voice. His faith was a cornerstone in his life, shaping the way he cared for and connected with those around him.
Harold’s passions extended beyond the church walls. He found great peace and happiness in going to the mountain, a place that brought him closer to nature and reflection. A thoughtful and gentle man, he also enjoyed the quiet challenge of doing word searches, a pastime that mirrored his contemplative and patient nature.
But the true joy in Harold’s life came from his family. He loved being with them, especially his grandchildren, whose laughter and presence filled his heart. His family was his anchor and his pride—each member holding a special place in his heart.
He is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Darlene Ray, whose companionship was a source of strength and joy for Harold. Their daughter, Susie Ray, continues his legacy of love and kindness. Harold was also a cherished great-grandfather, surrounded by eleven great-grandchildren who brought endless happiness to his later years. His connection to his extended family remained strong through his grand children Cierra Foust (Matt), Casey Young (Danny), and Will Young, who carry forward the values he instilled.
Harold’s bond with his siblings was deep and enduring. He is survived by his brother, Carl Ray (Tracy), and his sisters, Wanda Holten, Ellen Vines, and Joy Pedraza, all of whom held him dear. Though separated by time and circumstance, he remembered his brother and sister—Jane Webster—and his parents, Harold Leon Ray Sr. and Marion Venice Mabe Ray, whose memories remained close to his heart. He also carried the memory of his daughter, Anita Ray Young, and grandson, D.J. Delmont, whose legacies live on in the stories and warmth shared by family.
Harold Leon Ray's life was marked by a tenderness and devotion that touched all who knew him. In every note sung in church, every family gathering, every quiet moment on the mountain, and every soft smile over a completed word search, he left a lasting imprint of love and faith. His presence will be deeply missed but forever cherished by those blessed to have shared in his extraordinary journey.
