Hazel Ruth Mize Vinson

Hazel Ruth Mize Vinson, 89, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was born in Alamance County to the late Hugh Calvin Mize and Violet Virginia Elmore Mize and was married to the late Henry Lee Vinson. She was a graduate of Walter M. Williams High School and retired from LabCorp.

Hazel was a woman of deep faith. It wasn’t something she just talked about, she lived it every day. She was a devoted member of the Burlington Assembly of God Church, having been a part of that church family for 70 years. She was recently honored as the oldest living charter member. Her faithfulness over those 70 years is a beautiful part of the legacy she leaves behind.

Hazel never met a stranger. She was always quick to offer up a compliment, to encourage others, or to brighten up a person’s day. She genuinely loved people and had a way of making others feel special.

She was a very loving, proud and supportive mother and grandmother. She never missed a ballgame, a dance recital, an awards program or a birthday celebration. She grew up in a large family and always cherished the many beach trips and Sunday lunches.

Hazel is survived by her daughter, Karen James Harris and her husband, Dean; sons, Henry Keith Vinson and his wife, Pam, Jonathan Kirk Vinson and his wife, April; grandchildren, Heather James Moser and her husband, Ryan; Elijah Lee Vinson, James Vinson and his wife, Nici, Rodney Vinson and his wife, Carly; Kelly Morton and her husband Dan; Chelsea Patterson; Bethany Harris Walker and her husband Steven; 15 great grandchildren; sisters, Betty Pore and her husband, Butch, Nell Sechrest and a brother, David Mize and his wife, Dale. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister, Patricia Lineberry; brothers, Bobby, Eric, Douglas and H.C. Mize; son-in-law, Bob James, a great granddaughter, Violet Rosalee Shoe.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, August 15, 2026 at Burlington Assembly of God by pastors, Bryan Rainbow and Howard Thompson. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:45 Saturday prior to the service at the church. The graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, August 18, 2026 at Alamance Memorial Park.

You took the time to know her, comfort her, listen to her and treat her with dignity and respect. You treated her as your own when we couldnt be there. Your patience and gentle care meant more to our family than we could ever express."
