Hazel Wright Thomas

Hazel Wright Thomas, 91, of Liberty Commons went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, February 25, 2022.

Hazel was an active member of Northside Baptist Church where she served in the choir, taught in the Beginner Sunday School, and was a member of several boards. Hazel loved making quilts and canning vegetables not only for her immediate family but also for her extended family as well. She was a Duke basketball fan. To the amazement of her children’s friends, Hazel liked to listen to Pink Floyd as she did her word search puzzles. She worked for Kayser Roth, Rolane, and the Shoe Department. Hazel worked into her eighties because she said she needed to be around people.  She also served as a volunteer at Memorial Hospital in Burlington.

Hazel was born in Caswell County to Thomas Stroud Wright and Annie Sue Rainey Wright, both deceased.  One of eleven children, she was preceded in death by sisters, Frances Petty and Edna Faircloth; brothers Charlie Wright, Ed Wright, Alfred Wright, Carl Wright, and Wilbur Wright.  She is survived by sister Anne Maynard and brothers, Rufus Wright and Larry Wright.

She was the wife of the late James Lacy Thomas Jr. and mother of two daughters, Carolyn Hinshaw (Mike) and Robin Brown both of Burlington. Survivors also include Grandsons James Vinson (Nici) of St. Johns, Florida and Will Brown (Brook) of Reidsville and Granddaughter Kacey Brown (TJ Kilmer) of Gibsonville. Great Grandchildren are Aydan Vinson, Aaron Vinson, Liam Boggs, Briar Brown, and Eli Brown, Step Grandson Eric Hinshaw (Kendra) and Step Great Grandchildren Audrey, Mia, and Adley and Bonus Kids, Clair Kilmer and Aidan Kilmer.

Hazel was all about family and she was known for her unconditional love and seeing the good in everyone.
