Helen Smith

Elon, NC Helen Dowd Smith, age 86, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 18, 2011. She was a native of Chatham County and the wife of the late Hobart Smith. Helen worked in textiles for many years and was a homemaker. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church and a former choir member. She is survived by her son, Larry Smith of Oklahoma and his wife, Phyllis; three grandchildren and four great grandchildren; sister, Evie "Brownie" Smith of McLeansville and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, Bennie and Laura McDaniel Dowd. The funeral service will be held on Monday, August 22, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Mike Williams and the burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home and other times at the home of Grady and Patricia Pack.
