Mrs. Helen Pharis Barham Thomas, 94, a resident of Heritage Place, passed away, on Monday, November 30, 2009 at Heritage Suites in Fayetteville. She was born on May 23, 1915 in Leakesville, North Carolina to the late William Pharis and Nannie Meeks Pharis. She was a longtime resident of Burlington and a former member of the First United Methodist Church of Elon, formerly West Burlington United Methodist Church. She was member of Haymount United Methodist Church and a member of the Barrington Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her husbands Howard H. Barham, and James Claiborne Thomas and one son Michael Barham. Surviving her are two step-sons J. Norman Thomas, and wife Carolyn, of Fayetteville and Rodney Thomas, and Sherri Cannady, of Lexington; a niece Scott Klein, and husband Keith, of Rocky Mount; three grandchildren Neal, Stacey, and Toby; five great-grandchildren Madison, Hannah, Anna, Clay, and Erica. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, December 2, 2009, prior to services at Haymount United Methodist Church Parlor. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at Haymount United Methodist Church with Dr. Woodrow W. Wells Jr., officiating. Graveside Services will be conducted at 3:30 p.m., on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at Pine Hill Cemetery in Burlington, with Rev. William Wolfe officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Haymount United Methodist Church 1700 Fort Bragg Rd Fayetteville, NC 28303-6899.
