Henry Lester "Lack" Moore, Sr. was ushered through the pearly gates to be with his Heavenly Father on December 11, 2025, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 24, 1927, in Rockingham County, NC. A proud veteran, Lack served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart for his bravery and sacrifice.
Lack had a distinguished career with AT&T, retiring after 31 years of dedicated service. Following his retirement, he continued to serve his community as a rural route carrier with the U.S. Postal Service and later enjoyed working at Stoney Creek Golf Course, where his passion for golf was a significant part of his life.
An avid golfer, Lack found joy not only on the green but also in woodworking and riding on his tractor. He dedicated many years to coaching baseball, basketball and football for youth in his community. His friends and family will remember him for his vibrant spirit and love for life.
Lack is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy Penland Moore; his son, Philip Craig Moore (Beverly); two grandchildren, Landon Moore and Brandee Hardy (Jason); two great-grandchildren, Will Rapp (Milla) and Asher Andrews; and a great-great-granddaughter, Rose Rapp; stepdaughters, Hope Foster (Danny) and Holly Penland; step-grandchildren, Kameron, Hayden, and Sophia Foster; and a sister, Minnie Katherine Moore Brown. Lack's special extended family includes Candy, Casey, Cam, and Chris Roberts, Larry Branderburg, and Debbie Mills. He leaves behind cherished memories with his best buddy, Dave Apple (Linda), and special friends Abner Baker and Willard Dean Sumner. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Lou Holbrook Moore; his son, Henry Lester "Hank" Moore, Jr.; his parents, Henry Clay Moore and Elizabeth Taylor Walker Moore Bridges; his sister, Elizabeth McCall; his brother, Herman Lewis Moore; as well as extended family member, Carla Branderburg.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 17, 2025 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Steve Tucker and Pastor Walter Jones. Interment will follow at St. Mark's Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 - 1:45 PM Wednesday prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
Henry Lester "Lack" Moore, Sr. will be remembered for his steadfast dedication to family, service, and community. His warmth and spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
