Herbert Hill

Burlington, NC Herbert McKinney Hill, age 79, passed away on Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at Alamance Health Care. He was a native of Rockingham County and the husband of Bertha Matilda Mitchell Hill who survives. Herbert retired as a Sergeant First Class from the US Army after 39 years of service to his country. He was a longtime member of McLeansville Baptist Church and in recent years a member of Guiding Light Baptist Church in Elon. He was an avid fisherman and a loving and devoted husband, father and brother. Survivors include his wife of the home, step daughter, Cheryl Sutton of Gibsonville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Catherine Dermott of Lake Worth, Florida, Jeanette Apple of McLeansville, Louise and Edward Jefferson of Randleman, Marie and Paul Thomas of Gibsonville, Ethel and Ronald Wicker of Julian and Dot and Wesley McKinney of Burlington; brothers and sister-in-law, Roy Hill of McLeansville and Edward and Tonya Hill of High Point; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Edna Byrd Hill; parents, James Martin and Goldie Alberta Johnson Hill and a brother, James Irvin Hill. The funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 25, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. at McLeansville Baptist Church by Rev. Max Rich, Rev. Tim Thornton and Rev. Jack Lemons and the burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m. on Saturday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home of his sister, Jeanette Apple. Memorials may be made to the Donor's favorite charity.
