Herman Thomas Gregory

Herman Thomas “Tommy” Gregory, 79, of Burlington, NC, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2026. He was born on April 17, 1947, in Alamance County, NC, to Herman Hessie Gregory and Dorothy Rudd Gregory. 

Tommy is reunited now with loved ones who went on before him and is doing what he loved most—spending time with Jesus. 

He is survived by his friend and wife of thirty-five years, Barbara King Gregory; his daughters, Tammy Cox (Craig) and Tracy Perkins (Chuck); his brother, William Maynard Gregory (Lois); twelve grandchildren, Jacob Gregory, Jenna Gregory, Kaitlyn King (Burke), Ariel Gregory, Abigail Campbell (Lee), Noel Cox, Annabell Cox (Aaron), Meuriel Sollars (Andrew), Sammy Perkins, Elisabeth Todd (Adam), Charity Robinson (Andrew), and Josiah Perkins (Erinn); and eleven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Tommy Lee Gregory, parents, Herman Hessie Gregory and Dorothy Rudd Gregory, and his brothers, Wayne Gregory, Michael Gregory, and Pete Gregory. 

Tommy held many titles throughout his life. He was a son, brother, husband, dad, uncle, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He served his country in the United States Army, achieving the rank of Sergeant, and later worked as a manager for Gregory Pallet Company. 

But his favorite name to go by was Pawpaw. 

Tommy loved his twelve grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren dearly and treasured every opportunity he had to spend time with them. He was a hardworking man who believed in being there for the people he loved. If anyone needed help, Tommy was there. He would do whatever he could to lend a hand, never hesitating to help anyone in any way possible. 

His faith was an important part of his life, and he was a member of Trinity Missionary Baptist Church in Reidsville, NC. While his family will deeply miss his presence, they can find comfort knowing that he is now home with Jesus and reunited with those he loved who went before him. He would want you to know that if you are not saved to ask The Lord into your heart today! 

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, August 11th at Bush Arbor Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, with Pastor Jason Simmons officiating. There will be no visitation. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hope for Homes Ministry or to Trinity Missionary Baptist Church in Tommy’s memory.
