Herman Monroe Whitfield, 86, of Haw River, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 2nd at his home.
He was born in Alamance County on May 27, 1939 to Lester Ezra and Maggie Long Whitfield.
After graduating from high school, Herman moved to New Jersey and started a career with the Revlon Corporation, and then accepted a promotion to their Phoenix, Arizona facility. He retired after 40 plus years of service.
Herman had a fondness for animals, vintage cars, music, working with his hands and trying to build a "better mousetrap." He loved people, especially his family and friends.
Herman is survived by his son, Wayne, of Phoenix, Arizona, his grandson, Kyle (Lallina), and a great granddaughter, Sophyia, and a great grandson, Rafael, all of Phoenix. He is also survived by three sisters, Jean Walker of Roxboro, Sadie Roach of Burlington, and Linda (Woody) Allen of Elon.
In addition to his parents, Herman was predeceased by his daughter, Laura Lee Whitfield; the love of his life, Carol; and ten siblings, Ethel Whitfield, Doris Coleman, Raymond Whitfield, Lorraine Matkins, Melvin Whitfield, Mae Lowe, Bea Jenkins, Katye Newton, Herbert Whitfield, and Frances Barber.
He leaves behind special friends, Lottie and Joe Natkowski of Phoenix, the mother of his two children, Adele Hyizer Whitfield of Phoenix, and many nieces and nephews.
The visitation is scheduled for Friday, October 10th from 9:45 - 10:45am, followed by the funeral at 11:00am, both at Lowe Funeral Home. The burial will immediately follow at Pine Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Wounded Warrior Project, The National Foundation for the Blind, The Humane Society of the United States, and the American Diabetes Association.
