Hilda Dunevant Stanfield passed away on August 1, 2026 at the age of 96. She was born in Caswell County on July 5, 1930, the eldest daughter of Coy and Ester Lou Dunevant.
After working at AT&T for almost 40 years, Hilda retired, devoting her life to what she loved most, her family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Eurell Chandler Stanfield; her parents; her great aunt, Mattie Belle Dunevant; sister, Nellie Mae “Nell” Smith and husband Hilton; sister, Annie Bell Lovelace; brother, Lawrence Dunevant; and grandson, Sebastian Gibson. She leaves behind surviving siblings, Coy Dunevant Jr. and wife Linda, and Shirley Winebarger; three children, Anthony Stanfield and wife Linda, Debra Elkins and husband Ted, and Faith Miller and husband Tony. She is also survived by grandchildren, Sydnor Elkins and husband James Taheny, Adam Stanfield and husband Christopher Wilson, Alexander Elkins and wife Emily, Grey Dominguez and partner Cristina, Allison Whittington and partner Tiffany Helton, Dustin Miller and wife Christen, Andrew Stanfield and wife Samantha, Ashton Stanfield, and Dylan Miller; in addition to 14 great grandchildren, numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and their children; as well as many lifelong neighbors and friends.
Hilda was a faithful member of Bethel Christian Church for over 50 years where she gained an amazing church family. She and her husband both sang in the choir and she served in the Women’s Fellowship group and taught Sunday school for many years. She will be remembered for her faith, kindness, quick wit, service to others, and endless devotion to her family.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 – 1:45 PM on Friday, August 7, 2026 at Bethel Christian Church. A funeral service will follow at 2 PM. Burial will be held in the church cemetery.
The family wish to express their gratitude for your many kindnesses evidenced in thought and deed, and for your attendance at the funeral service. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Hilda’s name to Gentiva Hospice and Bethel United Christian Church youth group.
