Mrs. Hortense Cantrell Sharpe, age 97, formerly of S. Sellars Mill Rd., passed away at 12:55 AM Thursday October 19, 2006 at Hospice Home. A native of Alamance County, she was wife of the late Walter M. Pete Sharpe and daughter of the late John Benjamin and Dora Story Cantrell. She was retired from Champion Map Co., was a member of Glen Hope Baptist Church and the Harper-Burke Sunday School Class. Survivors include her daughter, Mrs. Clara Phillips of St. Augustine, FL; granddaughter, Kathryn Boling of Burlington; great grandchild, Shannon Tharpe; great great grandchildren; Logan Tharpe and Nicholas Stiltner; niece, Emily Thomas daughter of Banks and Jennie Mae Cantrell and other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by sister, Elizabeth Kernodle and brothers, Martin Cantrell, Van Cantrell and Banks Cantrell. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday October 23, 2006 at Glen Hope Baptist Church by Rev. Larry Redding, pastor. Interment will follow in Bethlehem Christian Church Cemetery. Mrs. Sharpe will remain at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory until being taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4-6 PM Sunday and at other times at the home of the granddaughter, Kathryn Boling; 3398 Garden Rd., Burlington.
