Elon, NC Howard "Bill" Lee Kernodle, age 80, of Kerr Chapel Road went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at his home. He was the husband of the late Virginia Garrison Kernodle who passed away on April 15th of this year. Howard retired from Burlington Industries, Williamsburg Plant. He was the co-founder of Pilgrim's Chapel and a long time member of the church. Howard served for 4 years in the US Army during the Korean War receiving several commendations. Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, John David Kernodle and his wife, LaDania, Larry Kernodle and his wife, Lorrie all of Burlington; daughters and son-in-law, Lorraine Martin, Tina Kernodle, Robin Jordan and her husband, Joey all of Elon; thirteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; brothers, Richard Kernodle of Anderson, Pete Kernodle of Indiana and Junie Floyd Kernodle of Georgia; sisters, Mary Eunice Ward of Mebane, Louise Mansfield of Burlington, Sallie Barbee of Mebane, Mildred Gwynn of Gibsonville and Almeria Gammon of Mebane. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Garrison Kernodle; granddaughter, Cholly Deaneen Kimrey; parents, Andrew Bruce and Ruthie Westbrooks Kernodle; brother, William Kernodle; sisters, Nannie Ruth Loy, Polly Robinson and Imogene Kernodle. The funeral service will be held on Friday, July 11, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Don Wade and assisted by Rev. Carlton Wilson and the burial will follow at Bethlehem Christian Church Cemetery with military honors provided by the 82nd Airborne Division. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
