Obituary

Jack Douglass Madren, a man whose life was marked by steadfast devotion to family, faith, and purposeful work, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2026, at UNC Chapel Hill Hospital. Born on June 13, 1942, in Alamance County, Jack grew up in a large farming family, a background that deeply rooted him in the values of hard work and community.

Throughout his life, Jack demonstrated a very analytical mind, choosing his words with care and often remaining quiet until he had formed a strong opinion. This thoughtful nature was evident to all who knew him, revealing a character that valued reflection and sincerity above all.

Jack’s professional life was equally dedicated. He worked for Annedeen Hosiery as the Dye House Supervisor, where his leadership and expertise were respected by colleagues. Beyond his career, Jack was a lifelong member of Bethlehem Christian Church—a place he cherished deeply. His service as a Sunday School teacher, choir member, and deacon reflected his unwavering faith and commitment to his spiritual community.

Jack enjoyed playing golf as well as spending time outside in his garden. He loved all types of flowers but was especially proud of the pineapples he was able to grow after his time in Hawaii.

Family was the cornerstone of Jack’s happiness. He was the loving husband of Glenda Summers Madren, to whom he was married for almost 63 years. Together, they created a loving home and a strong foundation for their children: Jack “Jay” Madren, Jr. and his wife Dawn; Charles “Neil” Madren; and Heather Madren Bouchillon and her husband Robert. Jack found immense joy in his grandchildren Matthew Madren and his wife Alexandra, Mackenzie Bouchillon, and Knox Bouchillon. His devotion extended to his siblings Harold Madren (Geynell), Clyde Madren (Pat), Kaye Wrenn (Carl), and Larry Madren (Cheryl), as well as his brother-in-law Wayne Apple.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Millard Madren and Myrtle Boswell Madren, and siblings Wylline Garrison (Earl) and Faye Apple.

A funeral Service will be held on Sunday, March 22, 2026 at 3:30PM at Bethlehem Christian Church with the burial to follow in the church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:30 – 3:15 prior to the service at the church as well as in the fellowship hall directly following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to; Bethlehem Christian Church Cemetery Endowment Fund, Post Office Box 127, Altamahaw, NC 27202 or Meals on Wheels of Alamance County http://www.alamancemow.org/.
