James Milton Rimmer, 86, peacefully passed away on Monday, March 30, 2026, at the Yanceyville Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born on November 1, 1939 in Person County, NC. James lived a life marked by devotion, hard work, and a solid commitment to those he held dear.
For 54 years, James was the proud owner and operator of Rimmer Heating and Air, dedicating his professional life to serving his community with honesty and skill. His retirement marked the close of an era defined by hard work and care, but it was the role as a family man that remained his greatest and most treasured accomplishment. Yet, among his proudest accomplishments was undoubtedly the joy he found in the company of his children and grandchildren; all babies and children brought a sparkle to his eyes and warmth to his soul, and he treasured every moment spent holding or chatting with them.
A man of many interests, James found joy in the outdoors, spending cherished time hunting and mostly fishing. He was passionate about traveling and camping in the family motor home, with special affection for visits to Amish Country. An avid NASCAR and UNC Tarheel fan.
James attended Staley Memorial Baptist Church, where his faith and fellowship were sources of strength and comfort throughout his life. His gentle spirit, his firm dedication as a family man, and his hard-working nature left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
James was a devoted husband of 65 years to Mary Louise Eakes Rimmer. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and countless shared memories. He was the proud father of two daughters, Theresa Haralson and her husband Joe, and Tammy Troyer and her husband Mike. His legacy continued through his grandchildren, Jamie Cole and her husband Travis, Rodney Mooney and Sydney Troyer; great-grandchildren, Lillian, Rory and Eleanor Cole; his sisters, Betsy Brann and Nancy Marshall; a brother, George Rimmer and his wife Norma; and his special extended family, Danyel Eakes (Major), Jaylyn Davis, Anni Tillman, Maverik Tillman, Dean Eakes (Sierra), Carsyn and Della; a sister-in-law, Nancy Jean Durham; and a brother-in-law, Larry Dean Eakes and his wife Annette. He has now been reunited with his parents, Preston Thomas Rimmer and Clarice Allison Rimmer Brasher; his sister, Janice Brown; and his brother, Harold Rimmer.
The funeral service to celebrate the life of James will be held at 4:00PM Thursday, April 2, 2026 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Rodney Staley with the burial to follow at Graham Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5PM to 7PM Wednesday evening at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory and other times at the residence.
