James (Jim) Barnes Weeks, age 82, peacefully entered heaven on September 14, 2023, following a courageous battle against cancer. He was born in Sampson County on June 23, 1941, and throughout his remarkable life, he touched the hearts of many.
Jim's journey was one of dedication, resilience, connection & fun. Jim graduated as valedictorian from Hobbton High School and graduated UNC-Chapel Hill with a political science degree. Although he initially didn't pursue his law degree, he began building his family's foundation and relocated to Wilmington, NC in 1965. It was there that he embarked on a highly successful career as a salesman for Scientific Products.
However, Jim's true passion beckoned, and in 1976, he realized his lifelong dream of becoming an attorney. Together with his classmate, Joe Turner, he opened a thriving law practice in Greensboro. Throughout his 46-year career, Jim played an integral role in helping countless individuals achieve their dreams, whether it was purchasing their ideal homes, drafting wills, or extending a helping hand to those in need. Jim spent much time volunteering with several organizations in Greensboro and found great joy
in being an active part of the community. Jim also had such a fun, quick wit and was beloved at the courthouse and an admired mentor for countless law students.
A dedicated member of the West Market Street Methodist church, Jim found purpose in teaching Sunday School. He was an avid Tar Heel fan, seldom missing a game – GO HEELS! He also had a zest for travel and, at the age of 60, took up golf with enthusiasm. To his many family and close friends, he was affectionately known as "Jimbo," always up for a good time.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, James and Louise (Sutton) Weeks, his wife, Linda Willis Weeks, his son-in-law Toby Skemp, and his cherished friend, Matt Hunoval. He is survived by his four devoted daughters (his “Sugars”): Lisa Weeks (Jay Cole), Lori Boldt (Terry), Kelley Tucker (Steven), and Shelley Roupas-Cantrell (Todd).
He is also survived by his sister, Sylvia Cox, and nephews Alan Cox and Ken Cox (Samantha), along with a host of grandchildren: Jack, Luke, Liz, and Patrick Boldt,Mackenzie and Austin Tucker, Thomas and David Roupas, and McLaren and Baxter Cantrell, as well as nieces Lindley and Kate.
