Jane Walker Swinney

Graham – Jane Sue Walker Swinney, 93, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at The Oaks of Alamance.  A native of Alamance County, she was born July 23, 1930 to the late Julian Franklin and Nellie Sue Hall Walker and was the wife of 67 years to Rev. Cleo Donald “Don” Swinney of the home.

Jane was a devoted servant of her Lord, and a faithful and committed pastor’s wife.  She was an active member in the churches her husband pastored during his ministry, including more than 25 years at Calvary Baptist Church in Burlington.  She was a woman of faith, who set an example for anyone who knew her.

While she retired after a long career with Bank of America, her greatest achievement was her loving and devoted marriage to her beloved Don as well as being a mother to her girls, Becky and Sharon and a grandmother to her precious grandchildren.

Jane was a true southern lady who enjoyed Bible study, Christian radio programs and gardening.  She also loved working puzzles, playing games with her grandchildren and taking family trips to the beach.

We are grieving but not like those who have no hope. We know and believe she is in the presence of Jesus and her loved ones and we will see her again. Please join us as we celebrate the life of this amazing woman who leaves a void for all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her daughters, Becky Purser (Tommie), Sharon Stowe (Del); grandchildren, Jennifer “Jenn” White (Rodney), Joy McMillan (Andy), Tommie Purser, Jr. (Stephanie), Grace Shanklin (Daniel), Gabby Wolfe (Christian); great grandchildren, Jordan White, Ally McMillan, Kinsley Purser, Tanner Purser, Cameron Wolfe, Austin Wolfe, Savana Wolfe, Anna Shanklin, Lily Shanklin and Ellie Shanklin and many loved nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; a twin brother, Jack Walker and sisters, Betty Clapp and Norma Walker.

A service to celebrate Jane’s life will be held at 2:00PM on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Don Carter with the burial to follow at Pine Hill Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 1:45 prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the home.

The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers at Brookdale Memory Care and The Oaks of Alamance.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Only Believe Radio Ministry, in care of WBAG, 1745 Burch Bridge Rd., Burlington, NC 27216.
