Janet Alston Ratliff

Janet Marie Alston Ratliff, 76, went home to be with her heavenly father on Monday, December 6, 2021.  She was born in Alamance County on March 20, 1945 to the late Jesse Jasper Alston and Margie Thelma Jones Alston and was married to the late Don Lee Ratliff who died in 2018.

Janet was the owner and operator of Alston’s Nursing Home for over 20 years.  The nursing home was a family business that her mother had started and that she continued until her retirement.  Janet was raised in a loving Christian home along with her brothers and sisters.  She was an active member of Community Church of Christ until her health declined.  Janet graduated from Central High School, Graham and attended Alamance Community College for sociology. She enjoyed puzzles and listening to gospel music.

She is survived by her sons, Darin Ratliff, Antoine Ratliff and Shawn (Shannon) Ratliff; grandchildren, Tyler, Tyson, Julia Ratliff and Iyanna Umbarger; and her siblings, Daisy Laura Thompson, Betty Holman (Donald, Sr.), Virginia Frances Graves, Annie Bernice Yarborough (James), Jesse Lee (Janice) Alston, Horace William (Fanny) Alston and Clyde Herrington Alston; a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends that she loved dearly.

Janet was preceded in death by her husband; parents and siblings, Clarence Edward Alston, Alexander June Alston, George Thomas Alston.

The funeral service will be held at 12:00pm Saturday, December 11, 2021 at Kimes Chapel Missionary Baptist Church by Pastor Tyron Alston and Pastor Larry Taylor with the burial to follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 11:00am to 11:45am Saturday prior to the service.  Janet will be available for viewing from 12:00pm to 5:00pm Friday at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory.
