Mrs. Janice (Jan) Rae Veale Henry, 92, of Burlington, North Carolina, passed away on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, following several months of declining health. She was born in Mebane, North Carolina, on November 6, 1933, to the late Lawson Edgar Veale and Lily Catherine Moore Veale.
Jan was a devoted wife to Donal Haun Henry Sr. for 68 years, until his passing in 2020. She loved planning and coordinating family gatherings and took great joy in cooking memorable meals for family holidays and special occasions with friends.
An accomplished seamstress, Jan learned the art of French hand sewing and used her talent to create beautiful baby bonnets, which she lovingly gave as gifts. She was also a graduate of the Master Gardener Program and enjoyed helping others plan their gardens and select plants.
Throughout her career, Jan served as assistant bookstore manager at Elon College and later worked as a sales representative for Doncaster Women’s Clothing.
She is survived by her three children: Donal Haun Henry Jr. (Frances), Catherine Henry Potopa (Michael), and Eric M. Henry (Lisa); three grandchildren, Julie Henry Rawls (Jon), Donal Haun Henry III, and Christopher Lawson Henry; and one great-grandson, Lawson Bowie Henry.
In addition to her parents and husband, Jan was preceded in death by her brothers, Edgar Moore Veale and Max Eric Veale, and her sister, Carolyn Veale Stanley.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Burlington. The family will receive visitors following the service.
The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to caregivers Beverly Graves and Beverly Slade, the staff at Brookdale and Rockbridge Senior Home, and special friend Mike Young for their care, kindness, and support.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, the Master Gardener Program, or the Humane Society of Alamance County.
Jan will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her generous spirit, her creative talents, and the love she shared through countless meals, handmade gifts, and acts of kindness.
