Jean Chase

Mabel Jean Gill Chase, 88, passed away on Tuesday, July 26, 2021 at Blakey Hall after several years of failing health.  She was born on June 24, 1933 in Clay County, West Virginia to the late Johnnie Roscoe Gill and Stella Hanshaw Gill, and was married to Rolland Odell Chase who died in 2003.

Jean received her bachelor’s degree from the Ohio State University and her master’s degree from North Carolina State University.  She was an Adult Educator and retired from the state of North Carolina as principal of the Wake County Community College Adult Education program.  She enjoyed gardening, reading and most of all spending time with her family and friends.

Jean is survived by a daughter, Stephanie Chase and her husband, Walid Nicola; grandchildren that she adored, David Pell and wife Emily and Michael Pell and wife Andrea; great grandchildren, Evelyn, George and Daphne Pell; a sister, Sue Davis and husband Edmund; brother, Donald Gill and wife Kaye; several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a son, Gregory “Greg” Chase and her siblings, Dorothy Seifert and Dalton Gill.

The family will be having a gathering from 11:00am to 1:00pm Friday, July 30, 2021 at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Hospice Home, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.  The family is planning a memorial service at a later date.
