Irma Jean Sawyer Walker, 82, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, November 21, 2022. She was a native of Alamance County and the daughter of the late Theodore “Ted” Henry Sawyer, Sr. and Irma Davis Sawyer. She was the wife of the late Samuel Eugene Walker.
Jean was employed with Pollard Insurance and retired from Bankers and Shippers Insurance Company. She was the former Treasurer for Alamance County Association of Insurance. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and was a assistant Sunday School teacher for the Dorcus/Ready Class. She served for many years as card ministry coordinator and was the lead person for the Ladies Prayer Breakfast. Jean had a strong faith and shared with those who crossed her path. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
She is survived by her daughter, Terri Ann Walker Gilland and significant other, Roddy Foster and her son, Thomas Eugene “Tommy” Walker and significant other, Nicole Allen; grandchildren, Ryan Gage (Julia) Gilland, Tabitha Walker (Karl) Hoyt, Samantha Ann-Marie Gilland and significant other, Colby Caron, Kayla Marie Walker(Justin) Slayton and Chesnee Gilland; great grandchildren, Emersyn Gilland, Hudson Gilland, Lillian Hoyt, Lukas Hoyt, Jayne Thrift, Jayce Slayton, Ryleigh Caron, Benjamin Caron and Enzo Caron; sister, Dorinda Kay Sawyer Ivey and husband, Mike of Efland and a brother, Theodore “Ted” Henry Sawyer, Jr. and wife, Teresa of Raleigh; special niece like a daughter, Alana Cagle. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Tammy Jean Hayes; husband, parents and a sister, Judith Ann Redding.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00pm Monday, November 28, 2022 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Ernest Beck with the burial to follow at Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:45-1:45pm Monday prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
