Joan Laws

Elon – Mrs. Joan Rachel DeBoe Laws passed on to her final reward Sunday, August 1, 2021. She joins her husband, Rev. James E. Laws, and her parents, James "Dusty" and Blanche DeBoe.

Joan lived a full life as a loving pastor's wife, devoted mother, and elementary school teacher. In her role as a pastor's wife, she was a Sunday School teacher, youth leader, pianist, organist, and choir director. She was active in the Women’s Auxiliary of the Cornerstone Conference serving as a board member and president for several years. She graduated from Elon College in 1972 and became an elementary school teacher for 30 years in Randolph and Guildford counties. Joan and James were extensive travelers, visiting all 50 states and enjoying several cruises. She accompanied him on two of his mission trips to Guatemala and Kenya.

Joan is survived by her three children: Cynthia Cox (David), Daryl Laws (Heather), and Kimberly Bray. Five grandchildren brightened her life: Grayson Cox, Lydia Laws, Michaela Cox, Rachel Bray, and Olivia Bray. She was blessed with one great-granddaughter, Noah. Joan is also survived by her two brothers, Dr. James DeBoe, Jr. and Joel DeBoe.

The funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Friday, August 6, 2021 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Tommy Fuquay with interment to follow in Alamance Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends from 12:45-1:45 prior to the service at the funeral home.
