JoAnn Church Boone, 86, of Burlington, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2025. Born on Christmas Day in 1938 in Alamance County, JoAnn spent most of her life in the Burlington community she loved so dearly.
JoAnn was a devoted member of St. Mark’s Church, where her faith was a guiding light throughout her life. She worked for many years at The Alamance News, where she was known for her dedication and work ethic before retiring.
A gifted cook and baker, JoAnn cherished preparing meals for family gatherings and keeping holiday traditions alive. She found great joy in her garden, tending to her plants with care and pride. Her greatest happiness, however, came from time spent with her family.
She shared a lifelong bond with her sister and best friend, Christine McCullock. The two could often be found gardening together, traveling, or sitting side by side in church — a testament to their deep and loving connection.
JoAnn is survived by her sister, Christine McCullock; her son, William Earl Boone Jr., and his wife, Ellen Boone; her granddaughters, Megan Campbell and her husband, Carson Campbell, Emily Boone, and Rachel Boone; and her great-granddaughter, Carleigh Campbell.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband William Earl Boone; her siblings Jack Church and Mary Church; and her parents, Jim and Grace Church.
She leaves behind a legacy of grace, resilience, and cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of those who loved her. A graveside service will be held privately with close family members.
