BURLINGTON Joe Nard "Jim" May, age 99, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, February 5, 2011 at the Hospice Home following a short illness. Born in Alamance County, Jim was the son of the late Walter Marion and Minnie May May and was married for 58 years to the late Christine Ragan May. He was of the Baptist faith and was employed as a carpenter for Ralph Harris Construction. He enjoyed gardening and was known to be a hard worker. Jim is survived by his daughters, Sylvia Dunn of the home, Peggy Lambert of Yanceville, and Linda Lewis Henry Lewis, Jr. of Graham; sons, J. Ronald May Barbara of Burlington and Kenneth May Betty Norris of Burlington; grandchildren Ricky Lambert Torri, Pam Gillespie Russell, Tammy Myers Roger, Gwen Matkins Kennon, Kevin Lewis Deanna Ray, Keith Lewis, Karl Lewis Shawna, Trisha Blackburn, Teresa Cobb Jamie, and Billi Norris; 16 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren; a brother, Walter Marion May, Jr. Martha of Burlington and sisters, Marion "Suse" May and Dorothy McDaries, both of Burlington. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents; a son, Charlie Anderson May; brothers, Arlie May, Charlie May and Claude May and a sister, Mignell Crouse. Jim also leaves behind his beloved cat, "Tammy". The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Floyd Repass and Rev. Bobby Fann. The burial will follow at St. Marks Reformed Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Monday evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Rd., Burlington, NC 27215.
