Burlington Joe David is home with Christ for Christmas. Joe David Perkins, age 70, formerly of Oxford, NC passed away Monday, December 10, 2012 at Alamance Regional Medical Center. A native of Elon, he was the son of the late Charles Ervin and Rosa Rainey Perkins and husband of the late Barbara Adcock Perkins. While living in Elon he worked construction and was a volunteer firefighter. He married Barbara Adcock and they moved to Oxford, NC where together they worked for Fleetwood Homes and traveled throughout much of the US repairing mobile homes. He became a member of Hester Baptist Church where he enjoyed cooking for his church family. While there he helped establish a Sunday School class which kept in touch with him in his later years with packages and cards. He opened his heart and home to his wife's parents until their deaths and her brother, Billy Adcock, until 2006. Since that time he made his residence at Alamance Health Care in Burlington. At Alamance Health Care, David was elected resident council chairperson and the "voice" for his family there. He always welcomed new residents, cut up with his caretakers and entertained with his wit. He enjoyed worship services, group games, cookouts and fellowship with the volunteers there. During his later days, when he became room bound, CDs of gospel songs and sermons provided daily comfort for him. David is survived by a devoted and loving family: sister, Vergie Henkle of Cherryville; brother, Eugene "Gene" Perkins and wife Maxine of Burlington and sister, Mary Lou Troxler and husband Rockie of Elon. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and sister, Marie Somers. Funeral services will be held at 10:00am Thursday, December 13, 2012 in the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Ms. Ebbie Murray. The family will received friends at the funeral home following the service. Graveside services will be held at 4:00pm Thursday in the Hester Baptist Church Cemetery in Oxford. The family would like the thank all the caregivers and health care providers; Alamance Health Care for their years of service and administration; Alamance Regional Hospital CCU personnel for their patient guidance and support in the final days; all of his medical physicians and their staffs; all of those who provided the many cards, prayers and visits throughout the years that supported and encouraged the family. At other times the family will be at the home of Mary Lou and Rockie Troxler; 3753 Hub Mill Rd., Elon. We love you brother.
