Joel Lane Hill, Sr., a beloved husband, father, and community member, passed away peacefully at his residence on January 8, 2026, surrounded by his family. Born on January 18, 1950, in Randolph County, North Carolina, Joel lived a life dedicated to family, faith, and his passion for painting.
As the owner and operator of Joel Hill Painting, Joel demonstrated remarkable commitment and expertise in the painting industry for 37 years, starting in 1989. His work reflected not only his skill but also his dedication to customer satisfaction and integrity. Throughout his career, Joel developed lasting relationships with many clients throughout the community, becoming a cherished figure in his field. Joel was a longtime member of Christian Bible Fellowship, where he found a profound sense of community and faith. His spiritual commitment extended beyond the church, influencing those around him through acts of kindness, support, and friendship.
In addition to his professional accomplishments and faith commitments, Joel had a rich life filled with personal interests and hobbies. He was passionate about classic cars and enjoyed the uplifting melodies of gospel music. Joel cherished his trips to the North Carolina mountains, where he found solace in nature. He also looked forward to meeting in the mornings with his Raygo Coffee Group, a gathering that fostered camaraderie and fellowship.
He is survived by his loving wife, Shaunda Morgan Hill, with whom he shared 34 wonderful years. Joel is also survived by his son, Joel L. "Joey" Hill, Jr., and his stepdaughter, Wendy Carter, along with her husband, Kevin. His legacy extends to his grandchildren, John Carter (Courtney), Jared Carter, and Kelly Carter; as well as his great-grandchild, Foster Carter. Joel is also survived by his brothers, Paul Hill (Jean), Mark Hill (Bonnie), and Howard "Buster" Hill (Marion). Joel was preceded in death by his parents, John Paul Hill and Mabel Ellen Stewart Hill, and his siblings, including his sister, Judy Hill, and brothers, Vernon Hill and Ron Hill. He also had a close bond with his deceased stepson, Scott Bell.
A Celebration of Life in honor of Joel Lane Hill, Sr. will be held at 1:00 PM January 17, 2026 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Brian Hill. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
