GIBSONVILLE- Mr. Joel Johnson Huffman, Sr., age 86, of 113 NC Hwy 100, died Wednesday, July 7, 2011 at UNC Hospital after a sudden illness. A native of Guilford County he was the son of the late Joel Patterson Huffman and the late Pearl Johnson Huffman. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines and served in WWII in the Pacific Theatre. He was a self employed carpenter and was of the Presbyterian faith. Mr. Huffman is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Walker and her husband, John, of Gibsonville and Gina McCain of Saginaw, TX; a son, Joel J. Huffman, Jr. of Margate, FL; five grandchildren, Tim Walker, Janna Smith, Michael Cox, Cole McCain and Luke McCain; four great grandchildren, Erin Walker, Kristen Walker, Ella Smith and Aniston Smith; one great grandson, Jeziah Neu; a step daughter, Gwen Luce, her husband, Larry, and her sons, David and Anthony Favara, all of Arlington, TX; and a brother, Stanton Vance Huffman of Beaver Dam, VA. He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Luena Diane Huffman and Carol Cox; a sister, Luena Huffman Ball; and a brother, Arlando Patterson Huffman. A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday, July 9, 2011 at Springwood Presbyterian Church by Mrs. Cynthia Ingle, CLP. Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery.
