John Lewis Simpson, 84, affectionately known as Lewis, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, January 5, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 11, 1941, in Alamance County, to the late John Wilson Simpson and Thelma Louise Webster, and was the husband to Lynda Tate Simpson who survives.
After proudly serving his country as a veteran of the U.S. Army, Lewis dedicated twenty years to the Burlington Fire Department. His unwavering dedication didn't stop there; he went on to become the owner and operator of Clean-up, Fix-up, Paint-up and Simpson Landscaping. His entrepreneurial spirit not only provided a living for his family, but also ensured summers were filled with laughter as he employed his children and their friends, teaching them the value of hard work.
Lewis was known affectionately as "Razzle Dazzle" by his grandchildren, a nickname that perfectly described his dynamic and heartwarming personality, they brought him immense joy, and he loved being involved in their lives. His presence was a source of joy for family and customers alike. He possessed an extraordinary ability to fix anything, reflecting his industrious nature and willingness to lend a helping hand. His love for playing his guitar and woodworking showcased his creative side, bringing music and craftsmanship into the lives of those who knew him.
As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Lewis remained steadfast in his faith, providing a moral compass for his family.
Family was the pride and joy of Lewis’s life. He leaves behind his devoted and loving wife of sixty years, Lynda Tate Simpson, who was his partner through every moment of joy and challenge. Together, they raised three wonderful children, Troy Simpson and his wife Carolina, Dale Simpson and his wife Regina, and Suzanne Allen and her husband Chris. Lewis took great pride in his grandchildren, Tyler Simpson, Cody Simpson and his wife Hannah, Cassidy Simpson, Chelsea Simpson, Shawn Simpson and River Allen, and was equally delighted by the arrival of his great-grandchildren, Carter and Caylee Simpson, who brought endless joy and laughter into his life.
Lewis is also survived by his sister, Margaret McCann and his brother, Gary Simpson and his wife Faye, along with several nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents and a half-brother, Wayne Webster.
