John McKinney

John McKinney

John P. “Johnny” McKinney, 91, went home to be  with the Lord on Saturday, October 24, 2020.  Johnny was born in Rockingham County to the late Isaac Belford and Jennie Beulah Soyars McKinney and was married to the late Peggy Apple McKinney.  He was a member of Apple’s Chapel Christian Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday school superintendent and sang in the men’s chorus.  He enjoyed wood-working, painting, reading and gardening.

Survivors include his daughters, Denise Riddle (Eric), Brenda Lynn (David); grandchildren, David Lynn, Jr. (Kaela), Jennie McCoy (Tom), Christopher Riddle and Zachary Riddle; great grandchildren, Kaylee and Aiden McCoy.  He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, daughter, Ann Scarlett McKinney and a sister, Virginia Chandler.

The funeral will be held 3:00 PM Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at Apple’s Chapel Christian Church by Rev. Dave Johnson with burial to follow in the church cemetery.  Mr. McKinney will be available for viewing at Lowe Funeral Home on Monday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and Tuesday from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm.
