Johnny Alexander Shanklin

September 27, 1951 — October 22, 2025

Mebane

Johnny Alexander Shanklin was born on September 27, 1951 to Rosa Perry Shanklin and Lacy Thomas Shanklin, Sr. in Orange County. He attended Orange County Schools.

Johnny worked diligently to help family members while he was growing up and going to school. He started working at the early age of 16 on third shift to earn extra money. He retired from Honda Power Equipment in 2014.

Over the years Johnny made countless friends. Some even liked referring to him as their son. He was a quiet, gentle man who loved the Lord. He loved people and people loved him. He loved all animals, especially dogs. They sensed it and came right to him and became fast friends.

Johnny stepped into his father’s footsteps in 2017 when he assumed the duty of teaching the Adult Sunday School Class at Deep Creek Baptist Church. At first, he was a bit shy and unsure of his ability to do this but the Lord lead him every step of the way. He studied and prepared each week for the lessons he would present and the members were always blessed by his message.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Dianne Whitlow Shanklin. They were by each other’s side in their daily life at all times. Johnny is also survived by his brother, Tommy Shanklin and wife, Debbie; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a host of loving friends too numerous to count.

Johnny was preceded in death by his mother, Rosa Perry Shanklin; father, Lacy Thomas Shanklin, Sr.; sister, Marie Shanklin Stainback; and grandparents, Sally Perry and John West Perry, and Sandy Alexander Shanklin and Geneva Shanklin.

A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at Deep Creek Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 9 AM – 10:45 AM prior to the service. Interment will follow the service in the church cemetery.
