Burlington - Mrs. Josephine Jo Starnes Blackwell, 77, of 1317 Vaughn Rd. passed away Monday, September 3, 2007 at her residence. Mrs. Blackwell was born November 24, 1929 in Alamance County to the late Willie F. Shorty Starnes and Lillian Culberson Starnes. She was the wife of Mr. Lynn Blackwell of the home for 60 years. Mrs. Blackwell retired from Alamance County Emergency Medical Services after many years of service. Prior to EMS she worked for Dr. Doris B. Braxton, M.D. Pediatrics and Alamance County Hospital. She was a VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Post 10607 and an American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Post 0063. Mrs. Blackwell was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels and with the Womens Resource Center. She was a member of the YMCA, a former member of American Business Womens Association, Graham Cardinal Chapter. Mrs. Blackwell was a faithful member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church where she was involved with the Teresions of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, and a Eucharistic Minister of the church. Survivors other than her husband include three sons, David Blackwell, Stephen Blackwell, and Jeffrey Blackwell and his wife Tina all of Burlington; five grandchildren, Tiffany Everhart, Jennifer Blackwell, Jeremy Blackwell, Christopher Blackwell, and Kaitlyn Blackwell; four great grandchildren, Kala Everhart, Carlyn Everhart, Chole Joyce, and Karaline Blackwell. She was preceded in death by a sister, Janet Andrews. A Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 5, 2007 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and at other times the family will be at the home.
