Judith "Judy" Hofberg, 84, of Whitsett passed away on Friday, June 7, 2024 at Alamance Regional Medical Center after several months of failing health. She was born Judith Marie Fitzgerald on February 12, 1940 in Yonkers, NY. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Adelaide Fitzgerald, and her sister, Lorraine Symington.

She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Art Hofberg, sons, Karl Hofberg (Jodi) of Graham and Mark Hofberg (Susie) of Charlotte; grandsons, Jacob Hofberg and Alexander Hofberg; nephews, Will Symington (Lou) of Houston, TX and Jack Symington (Pam) of Rockford, IL; sisters-in-law, Judy Tymes (Norlin) of New Bern and Lois Bankert (Bates) of Port Angeles, WA; as well as several other nieces and nephews.

Judy grew up in Yonkers, NY.  She moved to Burlington with her family in 1973.  She was a stay-at-home mom raising her two sons and completed her degree from Technical College of Alamance.  Judy worked as a part-time real estate agent, as well as a tax preparer with H & R Block.  Her hobbies included quilting, taking nature walks, gardening, playing scrabble and meeting up with friends at the Senior Center for mahjong.  She volunteered for many years with Meals on Wheels and regularly attended the YMCA as part of the Silver Sneakers program.  She was also part of the Burlington Welcome Wagon and a member of the Burlington Lions.  Judy loved the beach, especially going with her family, but her greatest joy was being a grandmother to Jacob and Alex.

A private family celebration of life service will be held at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Alamance Memorial Park.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff and nurses at ARMC for all their loving care and compassion that was shown to Judy during her illness.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association at www.lung.org or the Alamance County Animal Shelter at www.burlingtonnc.gov/2207/Animal-Services.
