Karen Hufffines

Mrs. Karen Elizabeth Baptista Huffines, 62, passed away Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at N.C. Baptist Hospital after a brief illness. She was born in New Bedford, MA to the late Mariano Maurice "Mudd" Baptista and Mary England Baptista who survives and was the wife of 23 years to Jerry Leon Huffines of the home. Karen was adored by all the children of the neighborhoods where she had lived and she adopted them as her own grandchildren. Karen enjoyed playing sweepstakes. She was well loved and will be missed by many. Survivors other than her husband, Jerry L. Huffines of the home and her mother, Mary E. Baptista of New Bedford, MA include her sisters, Annamarie Baptista and Cindy Cordeiro; uncle, Manuel Baptista all of New Bedford, MA; her beloved pets, Abby and Blaze; stepdaughter, Cynthia Ernie Raymond of Burlington; 5 grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father and an aunt, Irene Baptista. The funeral service will be held 2:00pm Saturday, December 1, 2012 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Jeff Turner with burial to follow in Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30pm to 1:45pm Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service. At other times the family will be at the home.
