Klaus Wirbelauer

Burlington -   Klaus Wirbelauer, 80 of Burlington, NC, entered his heavenly home on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at Alamance Regional Medical Center.

He was born in Berlin, Germany on August 12, 1941 to the late Albert and Hildegarde Wirbelauer and was the husband of 21 years to Debra Wirbelauer of the home.

Klaus retired from Carolina Biological Supply after 58 years of service and was a member of St. Mark’s Church.  Klaus enjoyed all the years he was active in coaching and officiating sports.  He also enjoyed playing table tennis at the local, state and twice at the national level.  He also won first place in the World Heart Games for Table Tennis in Atlanta, Georgia.  His greatest joy was coaching and watching all of his children and especially his grandchildren play in sports.

Klaus was so honored in 2015 when he received the Betsy Brown Chandler Award on July 15th at the John Robert Kernodle Center.  It meant so much because the participants in the Alamance/Burlington Senior Games voted on who should receive the award.

He is survived by his wife, Debra Wirbelauer; sons, Mark Wirbelauer (Nancy), Brandon Wirbelauer (Jennifer), Ryan Wirbelauer (Maddie) and step son, Brad Wilson (Heather); grandchildren, Tia Bracken, Timmy Vance, Michael Wirbelauer, Avery Wilson, Sydney Claire Wilson and Silas Grey Wirbelauer; great grandchildren, Addy Vance and Claire Bracken; special niece, Anke Wirbelauer (Michael) and their daughter, Paula and a sister-in-law, Gisela Wirbelauer.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Horst Wirbelauer.

A service to celebrate his life will be held 2:00pm on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. John Collins.  The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home and other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Alamance County, Inc., P.O. Box 5117, Burlington, NC 27216 or visit http://www.hsaconline.org/donate.html.
