La Mounsamak Thammavongsa

La Mounsamak Thammavongsa, 72, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2026, surrounded by her family.

Born on October 3, 1953, in Chaiyaphum, Thailand. In 1980, La and her husband, Tanh, came to the United States, like so many others at that time, fleeing communism and seeking a better opportunity with their family. They arrived in Whittier, California, sponsored by Sandy Napomjebra and Soubinh Chanthavongsouk.

Her family lived in Whittier and Modesto, CA for 8 years. To be closer to family, they eventually moved to Burlington, NC in 1988. They worked tirelessly to provide for their family within the textile industry (Hosiery mills) while living in Burlington, North Carolina.

Within her community, La was a devoted Christian and a proud member of Glen Hope Baptist Church. She was known for her kindness, her warm smile, and the gentle hugs she shared with everyone she met. She found joy in cooking, sewing, Christian music, and especially in being a grandmother—her favorite role of all.

La is survived by her husband of 55 years, Tanh Thammavongsa; her children, Patti and Somchanh, her daughter in law Vilayphone, her grandchildren, Paige, Lukas, Chace; her great granddaughter, Aylaa and her extended family, the Khoumrasmy's (Thoua, Boualam, Bunni, Kim, Bailey and Kheuang).

A service celebrating her life will be held at Lowe Funeral Home 2205 S Church St Burlington, NC 27215 on February 14, 2026, at 11:00 AM. Visitation is Friday, February 13, 2026, 6-8pm.

Her legacy of faith, strength, and love will forever live in the hearts of those who knew her.
