Larry Higgins

Larry Key Higgins, 58 years young, of Burlington rode off into the sunset Saturday, September 8, 2007. He was a man that wore many hats. He was a father, a brother, a grandfather, an outdoorsman, a master storyteller and a vampire slayer so he told his grandchildren, and to some lucky ones he was a special friend and sometimes a lover. Larry was the love of a lifetime to the late Linda Murphy Higgins. There is not enough space available to tell the tale of Larry Key Higgins; however this is just a brief glimpse of what his life was like. He was born in Winston Salem, March 26, 1949 to the late Donald Key Higgins and the late Reba Dixon Clewley. Larry was a retired Deputy from the Alamance County Sheriffs office, and had worked as a Mebane Policeman prior to becoming a Deputy. He currently worked as a dispatcher for the Mebane Police Department and as a security officer for Elon University. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War and earned a Bronze Star. Larry was an avid hunter and outdoorsman who will be missed by his friends and family.Survivors include his daughters; Heather Marie McWhorter and her fiance` Tony Kern of Neligh, NE, Linda Diane Wiseman and her husband Josh of Oakdale, NE, grandchildren; Jordan McWhorter, Chase McWhorter, Haley McWhorter, Mackenzie Wiseman, Hunter McWhorter, Kendall Wiseman, Megan McWhorter, Cameron Wiseman, Meredith Wiseman, sisters; Judith Judy Wagoner of Whitsett, Mona Higgins of Marydale, MD, Amy Simpson of Mt. Airy, brothers; Wayne Higgins of Burlington, David Higgins and his wife Brenda of Harmony, NC, Ricky Higgins and his wife Teresa of Harmony, NC and Edward Higgins of Odonton, MD.The celebration of his life will be held 11:00 AM Thursday September 13, 2007 at the Alamance Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends 6-8 PM Wednesday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. and at other times at the home of a niece Dodie Larow, 6569 Foster Rd., Whitsett, NC.In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the North Carolina Wildlife Endowment Fund, 1710 Mail Service Center, Raleigh, NC 27699-1710.
